Mystery and intrigue may shroud Hanging Rock but none of that will be around when Run the Rock is staged for the first time at the famous landmark and racecourse on Saturday, 17 April.
Best known for the 1970s Peter Weir film, Picnic at Hanging Rock, telling the tale of the disappearance of a group of schoolgirls, the area is also well known for the twice annual horse races and its range of food and wineries.
Situated just 75 kilometres north west of Melbourne just off the Calder Highway, the picturesque 5km run or walk and 10km run will start and finish on the historic racecourse within the Hanging Rock Recreation Reserve.
While it may have been tempting to climb the rock as part of the course the logistics count that out. The 5km loop is on some quiet country roads that will be closed for the event with the finish at the judge’s box on the racecourse with wonderful views to Hanging Rock and Mt. Macedon.
The 10km run completes most of the loop twice and also completes a lap around the base of Hanging Rock.
The 5km run or walk will start at 9.30am with the 10km run starting at 10.00am.
